My new favourite sandwich topping

Due to the shocking week I've had I haven't been eating all that well because cooking would take up far too much time than my hysteric baby would allow. So, we've been experimenting. Adam has been eating Cheerios for tea and deemed that acceptable, whereas Keira has been scavenging olives, cheese, cherry tomatoes and slices of ham from the fridge whenever she can and making out of the collection a pretty damn fine tapas plate.

(Keira is no stranger to culinary experimentation)

My new love however is Frosting Sandwiches. Ten-Fifteen years ago, American importations such as this were still a rarity in Australia. We still beat our own butter and sugar together, thanks. These days? Go to the supermarket and buy it in a tub, stupid! I am a guilty offender - -no, I WAS a guilty offender until I tasted it's divinity of chemically enriched (I'm guessing) flavour.

Nonetheless, Adam was none to pleased when he sprang me covertly trying to make another sandwich.

"What are you doing?"

Me: (with spoonful of the cream in my mouth) "Hey, I've had a hard week. You eat crystallised sugar lollies masked as cereal for dinner - don't judge me"

It's a miracle we passed our dental appointment with flying colours. It's Keira's turn in a couple of weeks. I'm dreading it.

What do you secretly eat to get you by in times of stress?

There's a spoon sitting right by my computer that's been licked clean of Nutella.

I just drink. Coffee by day, alcohol by night.

Frosting sandwiches! LOL. I've been known to scoff that frosting, but, hey, I have standards.. I put it on cake!

And I have never succumbed to cereal (of any kind!) for dinner!!

Go Keira.. now she's the shining example of that theory that when kids are allowed to graze they will eat a balanced diet! No thanks to her role models, hee hee!!

When I was 11 or so I discovered bread with a thick layer of butter (REAL butter, not yucky margarine) and brown sugar. It had to be made at my nanna's as our house was margarine only. But it was yummy! Alas, only in moderation so I don't get too fat again...but it is still nice for a special occasion.
Breakfast cereal is the other constant comfort food/dietary staple.

usually chocolate but I have been known to crack open a can of Nestle Sweetened Condensed Milk in particularly bad times.
Oh and I'm a complete Pepsi Max addict

Mmm...Nutella, coffee, sugar snadwiches, chocolate...yum

Acutally, I'll be talking more about chocolate tomorow...must be the season or something ;)

My addiction would have to be Little Debbie snack cakes. Particularly Oatmeal Creme Pies and Fudge Brownies. In fact, pretty much any fudge brownies are great. Real ones are even better than Little Debbie.

I also drink a lot of tea when I'm stressed. (hot, not iced)

Hi! I've been meaning to make myself a pest to you for awhile now.... Tracey said I should (lol).

I haven't tried the store frosting in a sandwhich but when I was a kid, mom used to make what we called "cocoa bread" which was really, a frosting that was whipped like you wouldn't believe (by hand) and then spread on bread as a treat.

I confess to resorting to a lot of that during a year where Mr. Fracas was working in the next province (about 8 hours drive) and I was single-momming it while he was away. The kids were 14, 11 and 5 and I was the chair of a volunteer committee that sucked up huge amounts of my time. I was literally run off my feet from about 6am to midnight and so in order to have a tiny bit of "me" time, I'd whip up some "cocoa bread" and watch a show I hated on tv... just to have that time with no one to bother me.

I gained about 20 pounds.... the bad side of "cocoa bread" but it sure is delicious.

I'm sure you'll fit right in on my blogroll. Anyone who likes frosting sandwiches is more than ok by me!
